Akira Isogawa Spring 2009

Born in Kyoto, Akira Isogawa is softly spoken and gracious – rare qualities in a cutthroat business. He moved here in 1986 and backpacked around Australia before studying fashion in Sydney. When he launched his label in 1996, he was so skint he sent his models down the runway in socks. “It’s very nice when people say my clothes are wearable art, but my answer is, ‘No, they’re clothes,’ ” he says. “I’m a fashion designer, I’m not an artist.”

Christian Dior Spring 2009

It was clearly Alaïa and Gaultier in "Tribal" mode Galliano was referencing with all his short flippy dresses with sheer skirts, bodysuits, python jackets, spotty animal prints, and jutting bras. If there was nothing too discernibly Dior-esque here, the house's offerings were admittedly forgettable in those years—and anyway, the people Galliano seems to be aiming at this season will be too young to know or care either way. AF Vandervorst Spring 2009

The models couldn't have looked more Parisian and it was a good thing too. The collection from AF Vandervorst was subdued enough to pass for a line rolled out at your local department store. That's not to say it wasn't lovely, just lacking in excitement. The white stockings added a shimmer but the over all look was relaxed and easy.
