Not only can you find anything you want in Hong Kong but unlike the rest of China you can be assured that you are buying actual brands rather than shoddily made knock offs. That being said, you've really got to hit the streets and shop around to find good deals. Compared to mainland China and Thailand the prices seem exhorbitantly high, but when you look into the same brands in Europe or North America you really do see a huge difference. Here are some tips to get the most out of your Hong Kong shopping experience.
The best place I've found to shop in Hong Kong is Kowloon. Located on the main land and accessible both by MTR and Ferry, Kowloon's neighborhoods spread away from the water and up into the New Territories. Kowloon offers some of the best shopping you can find in Hong Kong for all budgets and all tastes. It also has some of the best street food that I've had in South East Asia.
For the young and trendy urban gear lovers, Mongkok is the place to go. One of the most densly populated places on the planet Mongkok offers tons of brands from all over the world. Mostly japanese influenced urban wear, shoes, and electronics can be found throughout the neighborhoods crowded streets. There are malls, boutiques and tons of things to choose from. Also, the Ladies Market in Monkok is a blocked off pedestrian street full of bargains and deals for both ladies and men.
Tsim ShaTsui is the place for more expensive outfitting. With Dior, Louis Vuiton, Prada, Chanel, Dolce and Gabbana and Gucci stores stemming from the ultra posh hotels you can get your fill of the bold and the beautiful in fashion. Tsim Sha Tsui is right on the harbour offering an impressive view of the Hong Kong skyline as well as Travel agents who can help with visa applications for relitively cheap. You'll also find your fill of Taylors lining every street offering suites, shirts, and anything else that a young urban proffessional might need. Surprisingly, Tsim Sha Tsui offers some of the best deals in camera supplies. The best prices I found (and I looked everywhere!) was at Tin Cheung Camera Company on Carnavon Road. The had a great sellection and their prices were far cheaper than any of the others. My favorite shop in Tsim Sha Tsui was called Area O264 and is located on Kimberly Road. With some of the best selections of Japanese street wear I found they offered a tempting selection despite being somewhat over priced. You can also find a Vivianne Westwood boutique around the corner which is worth checking out.
Hong Kong Island is also fun shopping. Although you'll have a lot of climbing to do unless you co-ordinate your tragectory with the mid-levels escalators. The island has many of the same top end shops that you'll find in Kowloon. As well as tons of beautiful boutiques. The best place to go for serious shoppers is Causeway Bay. With Japanese Department stores on Hennessy Road offering everything high tech and high fashion and tons of malls that beg to be explored. You can also find and interconnected shopping streets and markets in the area. Jardine's bazaar and Jardine's Crescent are two narrow lanes off of Yee Wo Street that have contained a street market since the earliest days of the colony. I found the prices to be quite a bit higher in Causeway bay than they were in Kowloon but like everything in life, it's all about shopping around.
