This is Vera Wang at her finest, inspired by the genteel aesthetic of high society social
register American debutantes of yesteryear, from Jackie Bouvier to Doris Duke.
"It's harking back to a time when women had their own definition of glamor,
style, and chic," said Wang.
Carolina Herrera uses ruffles, satin sashes, flowing fabrics, and trains to give the collection an ethereal feel, while an element of surprise was found in black
embellishments, which added an ironic touch to the white palette.
Monique Lhuillier's collection was old fashion, organic and reminiscent of The Great Gatsby. "It was really organic this season," explained Lhuillier. "There was hardly any
satin; I just felt that polished look had been really done. Instead, I used lots
of chiffon, matte garza, and left edges frayed."
