D&G Spring 2009
Added: about 1 year ago
Grace Jones’ disco-days version of “La Vie en Rose” was
more than the soundtrack for D&G’s spring show; The clothes
were kitschy and cute from the get-go: A knit romper done up like Thirties-era
swimwear emblazoned with a proud anchor gave way to bateau tops, wide-leg sailor
pants and stripes galore, all of it done up in French red, white and blue. Of
course, it’s not the Rue Cambon without tweed or D&G without flash. There
were plenty of both, as in a terrific sequined tweed skirt that appeared to be
two half circles sewn together at the sides. The theme also spawned plenty of
cheeky editorial extras, such as knit bathing caps, sailing scarves fashioned
into flowers and gigantic metallic bow ties. The finale — you knew it was coming
— of sweeping nautical-print dresses topped with pleated lamé, one shaped like a
golden clamshell, was the standard of D&G exuberance.
