We’ve always been huge, huge fans both acting and style wise of Penelope Cruz, her recent designed and ads for European retailer Mango (which also featured her younger sister Monica) only further solidified our positive thoughts directed at the Spanish beauty.
Penelope was quite the background internationally that most people in North America fail to realize. By the time she was in her mid to late teens, Penelope had not only studied both jazz and ballet, beat out 300 other girls at a talent agency audition, but also worked as TV presenter for a teen-oriented program La Quinta Marcha (check this clip to see what that’s about). She is the first Spanish women to ever receive an Oscar and only the 6th person of Spanish decent to have won an Oscar ever.
It was then also no surprise that, in 2007, Barcelona based fashion company Mango (with stores all over the world) asked not only Penelope but her sister to design a collection of high end women’s wear to be solde within the retail chain. The 25 piece collection was a mix of classic basics and all out glamour, very decent quality and, even though retailing for a higher price than most of Mango’s items, still a remarkable steal in the grand scheme of things.
There are very few people we can think of, no matter how big the fashionista, that we feel could pull off a solid, head to toe red suit, and Penelope does it with both elegance and class. What’s amazing about this look is the cut as well – almost a tribute to the 80’s power dressing, but not quite either. You def need to be long and lean to pull this one off without looking like a balloon, but when done properly, the wow factor on this is amazing.
