We love, love, LOVE Courgars, but not for the reason that you think. We aren’t a late teens, mid 20’s guy looking for an older lady to be our sugar mommas. When we first heard the term, we thought it was a little insulting, but as time went on and we gained a better understanding of getting older as a women and simply just the world around us, we began to see it as a term of endearment. For too long, the aging, single man was portrayed as the non-chalante, swinging bachelor, sipping scotch and punching his friends in the arm while they swapped stories like old war buddies. All the while hanging out in their swanky loft and could never (and will never) be set up for family living.
What did women have? Women had the Old Maid. They had the presumption of society that they had pretty much only the choice of family and that single life mean they were going to fall apart when they got older and die alone and unhappy. Oh, and most probably with a large number of cats.
We’re not quite sure how or why the cougars came into play. We don’t care, and we like it. We love that that we’re living in a time when the 35+ women is not only viewed by society and, shockingly, the media as powerful and assertive but also SEXY. Maybe that’s a sign of things to come.
Whatever you want to call it, we think Courtney Cox has actually done a fantastic job of aging both elegantly and gracefully. Sure, she’s probably had a bit of work but she still hands down looks, dresses and acts age appropriately and there’s something to be said for that these days, especially when you’re someone wrapped up in the game of Hollywood.
