IN? OR OUT?
Trendmill talks to Sarah Morrison
Added: over 2 years ago

Sarah Morrison lives in Los Angeles. She promotes and hosts parties in LA. She writes a weekly blog about her life on the internet that can be found at her overwhelming myspace page. She owns a lot of clothing, all which she keeps on the floor of her room. She also watches a lot of VH1.

Tell us about yourself, I am sure people are curious to know who Sarah Morrison is:
I am a girl who writes blogs and throws parties. The internet reads my blogs. The real world comes to my parties. I like the internet more.
I have heard people call you an internet celebrity, what defines an internet celebrity and why do people think you are one?
An internet celebrity is someone who has achieved a level of fame even lamer than many of the actual celebrities with no discernable talent. Regardless of talent, an internet celebrity may be bombarded with myspace comments, but no one cares if they drive away from Starbucks with a baby in their lap.
I was watching your video and you claimed people or girls dress like you, how did you become a "style icon" or at least relevant enough for girls to copy?
The girls have been reading my blogs for a while. They wanted photos. So, I gave them photos. I am a little older than most of the “internet” celebrities of the day. I read Vogue, but I don’t have any idea what Lohan wore to the Sidekick 12 launch party. I dress a little more vintage, and a little bit more “I have a 12 hour day ahead of me,” than the “I live with my parents” crowd. I also have had a few more years with my body type, and am aware of what works for me.

What do you think the is the must have fashion item of the season is?
This is the stuff I endorse, for Spring/Summer. This season its mesh and cutout stuff. I love one piece bathing suits at the beach and as tops. Plaids that aren’t as harsh as the flannels of winter are in for summer. High waisted shorts and pants are back. Silver is in. If you can’t get into it jewelry-wise, buy a pair of silver heels. Old school Candies are back, wooden heel and all. Squared necked cropped tops are in, without the Mexican embroidery of last summer making it a little more modern.
What do you predict will be the next big thing for fall?
Pockets are going to be everywhere. Get over them making you look wide, and put stuff in them. Unfortunately, there will be shoulder pads this fall. Wide cropped jackets and capes will be your new jacket. Hats and gloves are must wears, regardless if it even snows wear you live. Even elbow length gloves, wear them. Leather, sequins, shiny tops or skirts paired with denim or other super casual stuff will be fall. Gray and asphalt are still big, but with bright colors. And the makeup for fall/winter will be bright. Wear bright green eye shadow. I said its ok.
What is your favorite piece in your closet, or in your case on the pile of clothes on your floor?
This is like Sophie’s Choice. I have a few fashion staples that I have had forever that I couldn’t live with out. I have a vintage hooded leather jacket that I would die if I lost. I also have an Earl Jeans denim hooded jacket I love just as much. I have a bunch of Marc Jacobs jelly flats from last summer that I feel like everyone missed, but me. I have a couple vintage Oshkosh little girls overall jumpers that I love. I have a collection of vintage slips in different colors that I wear under dresses and skirts to add length and color. I have a pair of platform orange sandals I bought at that American Eagle Outfitters store. They may be my favorite shoes ever. Seriously.

Who are some bands we should check out?
I am not so good with hip new music. I do not really get into new stuff much. I love that Amy Winehouse album. If you don’t something is wrong with you. I guess her and Lily Allen are like “enemies.” I don’t really feel Lilly Allen. I am on “Team Amy.” I love this band the Deadly Syndrome that I saw and met at SXSW. I like the Scanners. Oh No Oh My is a really dope band coming up. Steve Aoki now owes me a dollar. Lately, I have been listening to the Mountain Goats nonstop.
Has the internet changed your life?
It confused my parents. They had me pinned as their perpetually scattered underemployed daughter who had thrown her education and career away. The news of “Sarah Morrison” t-shirts threw them for a loop. I found that fun. The internet has done me well. I thank it.
I want to be like Sarah Morrison t-shirts
What's next for Sarah Morrison?
We are working on a PR party throwing venture. I have a magazine I have wanted to do forever. I hope to find investors for it, and get it off the ground. I am selling “I wanna be Sarah Morrison when I grow up” t-shirts. There’s a new blog on another site launching soon. I still blog and dress adorably like woah.
Fashion stuff you're just into that may or may not be cool.
I like black with blue even though it’s everyone’s fashion “don’t.” There is nothing hotter than a black dress and a bright blue bag. I like that bright purple color. I am not sure what it’s called. Accessorize with it; bags, coats, or jewelry. Pair that with anything. I like purple and army green together. I hate pink. Wear long necklaces over a shoulder. Wear a bunch like that, or mix them with regular necklaces.. Most of us have more than one hole in our ears. Wear big earrings in both, at the same time, just not to the airport. Wear knit hats in the summer. Wear gold eye shadow when you are not wearing any makeup. Screw the haters, wear red lip gloss. It’ll make you feel pretty.

WoW...the only posted comment, so far.?. Mine don't count, anyway, even though I'm from the internet, and liked more than people in real life. Somehow, I've managed to only 'piss off' Sarah Morrison. I think she thinks I'm odd, and, she occasionaly offers me a 'misdirection' in the form of mean words. I still think she's cool and wish she'd call me sometime just for the hell of it.
