Christophe Decarnin was given the daunting task of pulling the Balmain name out from the depths of fashion disaster after the house slowly spiraled into insignificance following the 1982 death of it's founder, Pierre Balmain. At one time the chosen design house to the likes of Sophia Lauren, Marlene Dietrich and Brigitte Bardot, the house fell into disrepair until 2 years ago when Decarnin waved his magic tape measure and breathed much needed life into the collection.
For Spring 08 Decarnin has held to his edgy rock inspired accouterments. Spring Schming as Decarnin keeps his colours moody and dark but for the occasional white backdrop. Christophe's fresh look is even helping the house find new members of young hollywood. French starlet Audrey Tatou and Sofia Coppola both wore dresses from his debut collection at the Cannes Film Festival.
