COMPANY HISTORY
Born in 1989, Triple Five Soul originated as a humble storefront in New York City’s Lower East Side. Originally entitled with a tongue-in-cheek reference to one of the then-popular telephone party lines, T5S quickly became a focal point for a multi-faceted, quickly emerging cultural movement.
In 1997, only months after opening its NYC flagship store on fashionable Lafayette Street, T5S began expanding international wholesale business. Exponentially increasing coverage in a wide range of fashion magazines, an uncanny and genuine popularity amongst this generation’s cultural heroes, and the unorthodox establishment of a base of operations in Brooklyn’s then upcoming Williamsburg neighbourhood all contributed to Triple Five Soul’s broad and fashion-forward visibility as leader of the street wear industry. Most recently, Triple Five has expanded this role into the ultra-competitive footwear market to launch its own fashion footwear line in 2005.
Although international growth and recognition would appear to challenge Triple Five Soul’s underground ethos, a consistently organic design process keeps the line well ahead of any market research and has allowed it to evolve, like its original clientele, into a truly cosmopolitan maturity. A continued, fervent sponsorship of all things future and independent maintains Triple Five Soul’s status as an industry leader. At its core, Triple Five Soul today remains the originator of NYC driven streetwear, with its unique utilitarian/cosmopolitan design base stemming from the collective urban experiences of our team.
The internationally-cooperative artist collaborative VS. PROJECTS, along with a local-designer driven, Williamsburg-based boutique (a la the brand’s Ludlow Street birthplace) continue to ensure that T5S, to this day, holds the representation of diverse individuality both as its driving force and its highest aspiration. Time Out New York confirmed the unique “local-to-global” T5S brand attitude in 2004 by awarding our NYC retail flagship with “Streetwear Brand of the Year”.
With distribution in major metropolitan cities throughout the world and instantly recognizable branding, Triple 5 Soul has now grown into a global entity. It’s just as common to walk down the streets of Shanghai and see the Triple 5 Soul logo as it is in the company’s hometown of Brooklyn. Triple Five Soul is now currently available in London, Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Norway, The Netherlands, Australia, Hong Kong and the Middle East.
